Christopher Blake believes American folk art should be made in America.
That is why he personally creates every piece from start to finish in his
Minnesota studio.
Christopher was born and raised in a traveling circus. He was taught to carve by his grandfather, a carousel horse carver from Germany.
Today, he is the third generation to carry on his family tradition.
Christopher knows that choosing just the right lumber from our racks of aged and dried basswood is crucial to achieving the successful carvings
of one of our unique originals. After many labor intensive hours,
the original piece is finished and ready to move to the next step.
At the Christopher Blake Studio, we create all of the four part molds right on site to insure we get a perfect casting of our original design.
The ingredients used in our folk art creations vary widely, from crushed walnuts and limestone to wood dust and sea shells. The final finishing process is then hand applied to achieve our trademark look.
All of the paints used are our own special blends that we have been
mixing for three generations. After following each part of the process,
our original folk art design comes alive by displaying different characteristics in each piece and that's just the way we like it.
